Washington-based carriers must get a New York Trip Permit before entering the state if all of the following are true:

The vehicle is a commercial truck (typically >26,000 lbs or 3+ axles) — meaning it normally needs apportioned registration under IRP.

The vehicle is not IRP-registered with New York listed on the cab card.

If the IRP cab card already includes New York as a jurisdiction, you do not need a trip permit.

If the vehicle is IRP-registered for New York, then you do not need a separate trip permit.
