In the state of Washington, you need to register for IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) if you

➤ A Qualified Motor Vehicle for IFTA purposes is:

A motor vehicle used, designed, or maintained for the transportation of persons or property, and that:

  1. Has two axles and a gross vehicle weight or registered gross vehicle weight exceeding 26,000 pounds, OR

  2. Has three or more axles, regardless of weight, OR

  3. Is used in combination (such as tractor + trailer), and the combination exceeds 26,000 pounds GVW


Interstate Travel Requirement

You must register for IFTA in Washington if your qualified vehicle:

  • Travels in two or more member jurisdictions (i.e., crosses state/province lines), AND

  • Uses motor fuels like diesel, gasoline, propane, etc.
